COMPANY NEWS; STERLING SOFTWARE FINISHES DEAL FOR KNOWLEDGEWARE
Sterling Software Inc. said yesterday that it had completed its $74 million acquisition of Atlanta software maker Knowledgeware Inc. The merger will eliminate about 150 jobs at Sterling and about 100 at Knowledgeware. Sterling, of Dallas, now has about 3,500 employees. Sterling issued about 2.4 million common shares, or 0.1653 shares for each Knowledgeware common share, to pay for the merger. Sterling now has about 23 million shares outstanding. The company also said that Fran Tarkenton, the former football star and founder of Knowledgeware, has joined Sterling's board.
